The name
Moraitika originates from the settlers who came from the Peloponese (originally known as Morias), in 1540. Moraitika is 4,150 hectares in area and has a population of 820 inhabitants who, in the winter collect olives and work on the land, and in the summer months provide excellent service and good will to the thousand of visitors. The second village of the community of Moraitika is called Episkopiana, the name originating from a bishop (Episkopos), who lived in the area in the Byzantine period.
