Information about Moraitika - Corfu

20 kms south of Corfu Town (Kerkyra) on the east coast of Corfu island you will find the village of Moraitika, nestled on a hillside overlooking the 4 km long, shallow, sandy beach. The village, situated in the olive groves, offers the visitor not only the possibility of peace and tranquility, but also the enjoyment of tasting a variety of local and cosmopolitan night life. The name Moraitika originates from the settlers who came from the Peloponese (originally known as Morias), in 1540. Moraitika is 4,150 hectares in area and has a population of 820 inhabitants who, in the winter collect olives and work on the land, and in the summer months provide excellent service and good will to the thousand of visitors. The second village of the community of Moraitika is called Episkopiana, the name originating from a bishop (Episkopos), who lived in the area in the Byzantine period.
Today the area can accommodate 7,500 visitors in a great choice of hotels of various categories and many apartments suitable for families

One of the main attractions of Moraitika resort is the small river from where many local fishermen and the kaiki excursion trips begin their day. On Moraitika beach there are many water sports to choose from and also a great variety of bars and tavernas where you will meet the warm friendly locals who will provide you many tasty specialities, excellent service and a wonderful atmosphere.

In Moraitika there is still the remains of a Roman baths establishment which formed part of the mansion belonging to a rich Roman citizen. In the community there are 6 churches dedicated to different saints and to celebrate their patronage, they hold traditional festivals in which both the locals and the visitors join together in celebration. Moraitika is an area that offers a little of everything for everyone - is suitable for families, the young and the young at heart.
